The beautiful fireplace hearth designs featured here are crafted from a vast spectrum of colorful stones . . . . .
. . . Available in an astonishing array of hues and textures, the natural stones used to create these veritable works of art were carefully selected and assembled for maximum visual impact!
The color range of the stones is as wide and varied as the mountain rang-
es from which many of them are ob-
tained. From light pastels to deep rus-
sets and reds, the palette of colors is as rich and vibrant as the canvas of a fine painting!
The ivory and cream river stones used on the fireplace facing below, left, are a perfect complement to the hand-
crafted wood mantel shelf and brack-
ets supporting it. Below, right, the vibrant "Easter egg" pastels of the aptly named Rainbow Cobble from Glacier Stone Supply present a strik-
ing visual feast!
The fieldstone and river rock used to craft the following two fireplace designs are infused with deeper tones of blue, blue-grey, and purple for dramatic effect.
The two skyward soaring stone fireplace hearth designs pictured below are crafted from a variety of light grey and light blue-grey stones. The stones used in the example below, left, were cut in square and rectangular shapes of varying sizes . . . . . . while the stones used in the example on the right were cut and assembled in a random mosaic pattern.
The roughly square, roughly rectangular stones used in the following two examples were cut in a wide range of different sizes. Comprised of deep tones of grey and blue-grey, the beautiful coloration and contrasting stone sizes lend a great deal of architectural interest to the designs.
Moving on to another area of the color spectrum, the fireplace designs pic-
tured below are crafted with stones ranging from cream and ivory -- inter-
spersed with light grey in the example below left -- to buff, tan and light brown. The ashlar pattern (square or rectangular facing) of the stone fireplace on the right lends somewhat of a formal appearance to the de-
sign, while the less precise patterning of the stone in the design on the left gives it more of a casual look and feel.
Like a carefully crafted patchwork quilt, the juxtaposition of varying stone sizes, shapes and colors lends
a great deal of visual interest to the composition. Adding to the visual ap-
peal is the striking combination of contrasting colors ranging from ivory and cream to orange, rust and dark brown.
Similar to the color palette in the ex-
ample at right, the stones in the de-
sign below, left, are infused with
many of the same hues and tones.
The rich coloration and deeply con-
trasting hues of the flagstones used
in the fireplace design below, right, give it a commanding presence that is difficult to ignore. Oranges, rusts and deep, velvety browns are juxtapositioned with blue-greys, buffs and charcoals to create a visually intoxicating feast!
Yellows, golds and dark browns are the dominant colors in the stone fire-
place design pictured below, left, and add to the richness of the room. Be-
low right, the dark charcoal and rust-colored stones lend a deep and rich contrast to the lightly-stained wood ceiling.
And finally, the massive hearth pictured below takes center stage in this room. Crafted from natural stones
ranging in color from buff to dark choc-
olate, the spectrum of hues and subtle tones featured in this design could only have been created by Mother Nature, herself!
