The design of your patio and outdoor fireplace should be a natural extension of your home.In other words,
it should blend or tie in both architecturally and spatially with the design of your home. Of equal importance,
it should be in-
fused with your personality and char-
acter to make it truly your own!
The striking patio with outdoor fireplace design pictured below features random ashlar stone work that extends to a series of arches outlining the perimeter of the patio. Highly decorative iron balustrades span the area between the arches.
Pictured at right is a beautiful brick patio with
trellising to support climb-
ing plants such as ivy and grapevine. Despite its elaborate look, the trellis-
ing is made from simple and inexpen-
sive latticework that can be pur-
chased from almost any lumberyard
or home and garden store. At the
rear of the patio is a formal French mantel and overmantel, or trumeau, made of stone.
The striking patio and fireplace design that follows was created by Green Scene Landscape, based in
Northridge, California. A stunning ivy-draped
pergola covers the patio area, which extends along the side of an adjacent swimming pool. The finely crafted stone
fireplace features an arched fire-
box opening flanked by a pair of similar openings used to provide storage for firewood.
The aqua blue lake pictured at right features a quaint stone
gazebo along its secluded banks. Complete with a stone outdoor fireplace, the roof of this lovely little structure is
ed by a series of stone arches.
Pictured below is another stunning creation from Green Scene Landscape. A large poolside
pavilion and adjacent balustrades feature classically in-
spired detailing. Beneath the pavilion's ornate roof of decorative open metalwork rests a majestic precast stone fireplace design.
The patio ideas that follow are in-
spired by the architecture of the American Desert Southwest. Pic-
tured at right is a Kiva fireplace
design with a Southwestern style pergola overhead.
The covered patio design that follows also features a large Kiva fireplace. This warm and inviting setting was beautifully captured through the camera lens of one of the talented folks at Roger Wade Studio.
The patio ideas for outdoor fireplaces pictured at right and below were in-
spired by Spanish Revival architec-
ture. Clay barrel tiles cover the roof of the open air pavilion at right, as well as the "roof" of the chimney
over the fireplace. The striking lime-
stone fireplace design pictured below was crafted by Ol' Yeller Landscaping near Austin, Texas. Colorful tiles sur-
round the firebox opening, as well as the two built-in storage areas that flank the firebox.
The poolside patio design pictured at right features a lovely see-through fireplace
with a waterfall above the firebox opening that spills into the pool. A stone chimney above the fireplace pierces the roof over the patio.
And finally, the design that follows features another poolside pavilion. Con-
temporary in style, it includes a sleek fireplace faced with stucco.
