Outdoor Gas Fireplaces...
Hot Choices!

Outdoor gas fireplaces,  like outdoor rooms,  are all
the rage today.   Recent innovations, as well as re-
strictions on wood burning in some areas, have pro-
pelled them to the top!

The explosive growth of the  "outdoor living"  industry has attracted a whole new group of players,  many  with  in-
credible  talent  and  creativity.     No longer the exclusive domain of the af-
fluent, several manufacturers are now producing  attractive  and  affordable prefabricated  fireplaces  for  outdoor use.    The fireplace at right is a  fine example of a well designed prefab,  or modular, unit.

In addition, some very unique and innovative custom or semi-custom de-
signs are springing up. The four outdoor gas fireplaces shown directly be-
low are very good examples of what can be achieved with a little creativ-
ity, imagination and technical know-how. Note the unique flame pattern
on the gas unit at lower left.

While custom hearths such as those above are truly innovative and ex-
citing, they often come with less than exciting price tags. And, as men-
tioned above, that has opened doors for numerous individuals and compa-
nies to manufacture high quality mid-range, prefabricated units that are well designed . . . and affordable. The remaining examples on this page
fall into that category.

Generally made from stainless steel, glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC), or volcanic stone, the fireplaces can be surrounded or faced with a variety of materials including stone, brick, tile and stucco.

Many of the prefab units are available in a choice of colors and don't re-
quire any additional facing materials.

As you might imagine, prefabricated fireplaces are much lighter in weight than site built masonry units. Shipped in pieces, they can be bolted to-
gether on site relatively fast.

Regardless of whether you choose a custom built or a modular unit, you now have an unprecedented number of choices in outdoor gas fireplaces. And there's more to come!
