Relatively recent developments in met-
als technology,  or metallurgy,  includ-
ing  new processing and finishing tech-
niques,  have  given  rise to a virtually limitless range of design possibilities!

No  longer  restricted soley to the "ski chalet  style"  of  the  1970s,  today's custom metal fireplace designs  are  a radical  departure  from  the  burnt or-
ange  metal flues  and lime green shag carpeting of that era.   Sleek and chic at times,  while futuristic and extreme at  others,  today's  custom metal fire-
places  are  especially  well  suited for contemporary  and   ultra   contempo-
rary settings.

The modern fireplace,  as we know it, has taken on a whole new meaning when fabricated from metal.  Due
to its malleability,  as  well as advances in processing techniques,  metal fireplaces  can be fashioned into a variety of non-traditional  forms  and  highly  unusual shapes, as shown in the examples below.

even bronze . . . . . . . as in the following two examples.

Corrugated galvanized steel has been used creatively to clad the surrounds of the two firebox openings pictured below . . . . with differing,  but equally striking effects.     Note the vertical orientation of the material on the left, while the metal surround on the right is laid horizontally.

Finishing techniques and/or finishes also vary from design to design . . . . . even  when  the  same type of metal is used.     Each of the following four examples are made of stainless steel.   However, while the surround at top left is highly polished, the remaining three surrounds have brushed finishes.

The  following  images of custom metal designs reflect a wide and varied range of shapes, sizes and finishes. Clearly, there are few, if any, design limitations when moulding modern metal!
