The beauty of country stone fireplaces is undeniable. Some of the most outstanding examples are those crafted from a combination of stone types and textures, such as smoothly rounded river rock and rugged split-faced fieldstone.

Another popular "stone type," due to its lighter weight and lower cost, is manufactured stone. Commonly called cultured stone, an actual brand name, it is very realistic in appearance and comparable to that of natural stone. The photos below show a variety of manufactured stone types and looks.
For a European country look . . . more specifically, Country French . . . the following examples are hard to beat for ambiance and period charm. Craft-
ed from limestone and crowned with overmantels, one of which is brick, they lend a great deal of authenticity to their settings.
